Acute Gastritis (Stomach Inflammation) | Causes, Signs & Symptoms, Diagnosis, Treatment

Acute gastritis is a condition involving inflammation of the gastric (stomach) mucosa. A wide variety of factors can cause acute gastritis including some bacterial infections, consumption of certain beverages and some medications. This inflammation of the stomach lining leads to a variety of symptoms. In this lesson, we discuss a large list of causes of acute gastritis, including all of the signs and symptoms, complications of acute gastritis, and how clinicians diagnose and treat acute gastritis.

*IMPORTANT NOTE: I forgot to mention that in the case of B12 deficiency caused by gastritis (which can be from atrophic gastritis or autoimmune gastritis), B12 INJECTIONS are required as oral supplements will not be absorbed efficiently!*

Gastritis is simply the inflammation in the mucosal lining of the stomach.
It has a wide range of spectrum, varying from a simple inflammation to a life-threatening gastric ulcer, complicated with perforation.
Gastritis can be divided broadly into acute gastritis, and chronic gastritis.
One of the most common causes of acute gastritis is drugs, especially non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen.
In addition, alcohol consumption, smoking, infection with helicobacter pylori bacteria, radiation, allergy and food poisoning, abdominal trauma, and burns can also cause acute gastritis.
Most common causes of chronic gastritis include, helicobacter pylori infection, long term use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, autoimmune gastritis, and chronic bile reflux.

Wound and healing 2, Injuries

Common types of wound
Contusion
A contusion is more commonly called a bruise. It is usually caused by a blunt blow, the overlying skin is unbroken, but tissues and blood vessels below are damaged. The discolouration is caused by bleeding from small vessels into the tissues. Red blood cells trapped in the tissue spaces become deoxygenated anddark coloured. Bruising can also develop after deeper tissues, such as bones are damaged, and may only become apparent after a period of time as blood tracks towards the body surface.
If blood collects in a discrete pool within the tissues this is described as a haematoma. As the blood in a haematoma is well consolidated it may cause pressure effects on surrounding tissues, these may include pain and nerve compression. There is a risk a haematoma may become infected and some need to be surgically evacuated.
Abrasion
An abrasion is a scrape or graze. Typically, there is a superficial surface wound involving the epidermis and part of the dermis. As dermal nociceptors are exposed in the damaged dermis, these wounds are often very painful. Some abrasions can however, be deeper wounds involving tissues below the level of the skin. Abrasions are most commonly caused by friction injuries, falling off bikes is a common cause. These wounds need to be well cleaned to remove dirt and grit which may be sticking to the wound surface.

Mononucleosis, or Mono, is a very common childhood disease, especially in teens. As Dr. Anna Mendenhall of Children’s Physicians Medical Group (CPMG) explains, it’s transmitted through saliva. So sharing drinks, lip balm and even kisses can spread the illness.

The Worst Symptoms of Ehlers Danlos Syndrome || EDS Awareness Month 2021

diseases No Comments »

it’s that time of year again! EDS & HSD awareness month comes around quick! I’m back for my 5th annual series of Ehlers Danlos Syndrome & Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder Awareness Month videos with my dazzle of zebras from across the world. This year we have 27 zebras with 4 different types of EDS and HSD from 8 different countries sharing their experiences of what it’s like to live with these rarely understood conditions on a daily basis.

This is the first video in the 2021 series and we are talking about the worst symptoms of HSD, hEDS, cEDS & vEDS. From chronic pain and fatigue to dislocations there are huge lists of symptoms around but I want you to hear from people living with EDS on a daily basis what the worst symptoms they face are.

This video is dedicated in loving memory of Saarah Ahmed who wanted to take part in this series but sadly passed away before she could. Saarah lived with a very rare type of EDS called kyphoscoliotic EDS and she always wanted to raise awareness. Her family want her legacy to live on so please visit the links below to learn more about Saarah & her advocacy work.
