Serious injuries, by and large, cause a lot of swelling in the knee. Especially in younger patients. Now, someone could be arthritic and they overdo it going for a big long hike and they get some swelling the next day. But rapid onset of swelling, it’s like hard to make out where your kneecap is, is a pretty big cardinal sign that there’s something serious that’s happened to your knee. Rapid onset swelling is usually due to blood in the joint. “A meniscus that really tears and flips in the front. You tear your quad or your patellar tendon, your kneecap dislocates, you tear a little blood vessel, your ACL tears, a piece of cartilage in bone gets knocked off and causes bleeding. So a lot of the really significant injuries, people get rapid onset swelling within three to four hours and they should seek attention There’s always exceptions to rules, but if your knee looks like a grapefruit, you should go get it checked.

In 2008, something incredible happened: a man was cured of HIV. In over 70 million HIV cases, this was a first, and, so far, a last, and we don’t yet understand exactly how he was cured. But if we can cure people of various diseases, like malaria and hepatitis C, why can’t we cure HIV? Janet Iwasa examines the specific traits of the HIV virus that make it so difficult to cure.

A New York woman may be the first to have been cured using a new paradigm of treatment.
From 1981, when the first patients with HIV were identified, to 2007 – a cure for the deadly virus would have been a miracle. And then, Timothy Ray Brown – known as “The Berlin Patient” was cured. And just like that, a miracle became science.
Mr. Brown had been diagnosed with HIV in 1995. In 2006, he was diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia which would require a donor bone marrow stem cell transplant for treatment. But this wasn’t just any donor. His donor was one of less than 1% of the world’s population, with a unique genetic mutation known as the CCR5-∆32 mutation. This rendered the donor’s immune cells resistant to HIV.
It was a gamble, to be sure, but it proved to be a successful one. Mr. Brown lived from 2007 to 2020 without the need for anti-retroviral therapy. He died from a relapse of AML. No HIV was detected at the time of his death.
The question, of course is simple: why can’t more people be cured of HIV?

Could something as simple as vitamin E help reverse a fatty liver? Here’s what you need to know.

Today we’re going to talk about why you might want to take vitamin E for a fatty liver.
There is a condition called NASH (non-alcoholic steatohepatitis), which is basically a fatty liver that has some inflammation. There have been many studies on using vitamin E for NASH.
Vitamin E has demonstrated significant improvement in:
1. Steatosis (the fatty liver portion)
2. Inflammation
3. Ballooning of the liver cells (degeneration)
Essentially, vitamin E may have the power to reduce the fat, inflammation, and the death of the liver cells in adult patients with NASH that don’t have diabetes or cirrhosis.
In one study, they used a natural version of only one part of the vitamin E complex. However, it may be beneficial to have the whole complex. They also used 800 IUs of this one part. Other studies have used up to 1000 IUs, while others only used 400 IUs. Between 800 and 1000 IUs may be the best idea.
Vitamin E may help stop the transition of going from having a fatty liver to an inflamed liver. It’s a very powerful antioxidant that may help calm free radicle damage, prevent inflammation, and prevent fibrosis.
Taking vitamin E alone may not change anything very much. But, changing the diet as well may make a more significant difference. The healthy keto diet with intermittent fasting may be the best way to go. Adding vitamin C in a food complex with choline may also be beneficial.
